Cough
A cough is your body’s quirk of responding once something irritates your throat or airways. An irritant stimulates nerves that send a broadcast to your brain. The brain later tells muscles in your chest and abdomen to appendix let breathe out of your lungs to force out the irritant.
An occasional cough is sufficient and healthy. A cough that persists for several weeks or one that brings up discolored or bloody mucus may indicate a condition that needs medical attention.

Colds
If you tend to get “colds” that start suddenly and happen at the same time every year, it’s possible that you actually have seasonal allergies. Although colds and seasonal allergies may share some of the same symptoms, they are very different diseases.
Common colds are caused by viruses. Seasonal allergies, however, are immune system responses triggered by exposure to allergens, such as seasonal tree or grass pollen.
